Bath and Shower Rubber Seal Replacement

When a bath or shower is installed there are always small gaps between the edge of the bath and the wall or the base of the shower basin and the glass sides for example. These gaps are sealed using a silicone rubber that is then smoothed off to a nice finish. The silicone binds to the surface and you have a nice seal to prevent water leaking. HOWEVER, over the years, bathroom cleaning products and general wear will see the rubber seal loose its adhesive stick and start pealing away. If can be all to tempting to pick at it or not do anything about it and let it peal away over time. This is a prime reason how leaks can happen. It won’t be apparent at first but that leaking water can drip drip away to rot wooden floor boards, soak insulation and prevent it from working, cause mould and create damp patches in the ceiling of the room directly below.

bath and shower sealent replacement

If you live in a flat, you may get a knock on the door from an angry neighbour as water has started to leak into their home or you may just be sitting there watching tv when part of the ceiling above you simply collapses next to you. We had one customer who went to the toilet, heard a crash and returned to find where he had been sitting had been replaced with part of the ceiling.

Water damage from the edges of baths, sinks and showers can be great so if you have rubber seal pealing away from your bath or kitchen sink, call us today, we can remove the entire existing seal and put down a brand new one to make your bathroom watertight once again.

Bathtub Sealant Replacement Case Study

We were called out by a customer in The West End who needed a few ‘odd job’ plumbing fixes across their home. The radiators bled, a loose tap tightened and the sealant around their bath tub replaced.

If the rubber sealant around your bath is peeling away and leaving gaps, it can easily allow water to seep through. Over time this can build up and cause wood rot, damp patches and all manner of other water damage to both the floor of the bathroom and the floor below.

We always ensure that the bathtub is full of water to help weigh down the bath. Modern fibre glass and plastic bathtubs can bend and flex a lot through the weight of water and a human body so by weighing down the bath, we can then apply the silicone, allow it to set and then release the water so that you get a better seal on your bath tub.
It is these little things that make the big differences.
