When a leaking roof is actually a leaking pipe

It can’ be easy being in the situation where you have a leak in your home.  Especially when you can’t find it and you struggle to fix it.  And that is what has just happened to a customer of ours in Mount Florida in the south side of Glasgow.

When the rain was ‘chucking it down’ in Glasgow the other week, they discovered a leak coming from behind the skirting board in their kitchen.  Directly above that wall was a join in the roof where their extension meets the main wall of the home.  So naturally they thought, given that it was raining at the time, that they had a leaking roof.  They happen to know a good roofer so they gave him a call and as it was an emergency call out, popped along that evening when it had dried up.  He looked at the gutters, checked the lead flashing and made sure that all the tiles were fitted/secure.  After that was all ticked of, he removed the skirting board in the kitchen and found a copper pipe.  As it was an old sandstone home, the current resident didn’t know that there was a water pipe behind the wall that led up to the upstairs bathroom.  The old copper pipe had finally given up the fight and had begun leaking.  The fact that the Mount Florida resident only noticed it during a day of rain in Glasgow was purely coincidental.

So once they had discovered that it was a leaking pipe and not a leaking roof, they need to call in a good Glasgow plumber.  Luckily, the South Side resident happened to know one of the very best.  JSL Plumbing.

We turned up at the agreed upon time and quickly got our thermal camera out to help trace the exact location of pipe that was leaking.  This meant that we could minimise what part of the wall we had to cut open to gain access.

After that, we simply replaced the old copper pipe with a new section of modern plastic piping, plastered up the hole in the wall that we had to cut out to gain access and hey presto – another plumbing job ticked off.
