Why does a tap start to leak?

A dripping tap can be irritating.

The drip drip sound can keep you up at night, it wastes water and if it is the hot tap that is leaking, will be costing you money in wasted hot water.

So getting it fixed should be a priority.

A leaking tap starts to leak because of worn out parts.  While cheaper taps will use cheaper parts and naturally wear out quicker, a conventional tap system will always wear out over time, especially with heavy use.  Washers can fail because of corrosion and water pressure build up while the friction on the valve within the tap can wear away causing a leak to form.

If you have a washer less tap then you still have the problem of cartridge, ball and disc components failing.

The good news is that these kind of problems are easy to fix, especially when you call a qualified plumber like JSL to do the job for you.
